Baby Bullet Giveaway!

Welcome to The Baby Bullet Giveaway
Sponsor:  NutriLiving

When Emily was transitioning from formula to solids I started off using just buying jarred baby food. But, not only did that become expensive really fast, I saw all kinds of product recalls! I began making our own homemade baby food as a healthier alternative to jarred foods and as a way to make sure I knew exactly what was going into her food. I didn't have the opportunity to try the Baby Bullet, but perhaps for our next addition, when the time comes. You can read along for a review, and don't forget to enter for a chance to win one of your own!

"I do have some wonderful news about Baby Bullet. It does have a lot to offer and here is how I enjoyed it so far. When I received it – I checked all the parts. I washed the parts I needed to use immediately and set them aside and began reading the booklet.

The Table of Contents is pretty extensive and impressive giving the consumer a good idea why this product is a wise purchase.  First of all, homemade food can never be compared to over-processed and over-priced foods. I also like the fact that I don’t need jars to store the food I just prepared. Seriously, I learned that all these jars need to be recycled at one point or another. No thank you!

In the food directions, I noticed that most foods are steamed. I did take that approach for certain veggies except for potatoes and squash… those, I baked nicely covered with a little homemade broth. Apples and pears are a great combination – I baked them (skin on) with some added water and covered it. I remembered the Allergy Alerts provided in the booklet. All turned out well.

I liked the rice, chicken and peas purée – baby eats what we eat but with less salt and seasonings. Basically, I am in control of added sugars, added salt or any additional ingredient since this preparation becomes a unique blend for my baby whose case is “sensitive”.

Baby Bullet has been conceived to grow with your baby. The booklet is full of recipes even some pancakes or scrambled eggs with veggies will be a cinch to make. Just enough for baby or maybe, just enough for the whole family.  I made some salsa with avocado for dinner. The tacos were delicious. It just doesn’t stop there, let your imagination grow with it. Besides, Baby Bullet is awesomely cute."

“How to purée and all the assembling is easy as well as the cleaning and that’s always a big bonus..”

Each Box contains:
  • 6-date dial storage cups,
  • spatula,
  • 1 short cup,
  • 1 stay fresh resealable lid and tip proof tray,
  • user manual and recipe book, pocket nutritionist
  • Make and store baby food in batches with batch tools and the handy, dated storage system
  • Baby Bullet is a trademark of Homeland Housewares, LLC

Giveaway: One Lucky Winner will received a Baby Bullet in our giveaway which starts on February 19, 12h01am EDT and Ends on March 6 at 11h59pm  - All entries will be checked. The winner will have 48 hours to reply to the email or another winner will be drawn at random.  CANADA and Continental of USA can enter and must be 18 yrs old +

Celebrating the One's You Love- Our Valentine's Day

This seems to be the year for celebrating! When Valentine's Day rolled around this time, I actually felt motivated to do some special activities with Emily. She's gotten to the perfect age to start doing crafts, games and the like.

I had no idea what I was in for, so I made sure to have a clear space and a lot of different materials to use. We had plans to make Valentine cards for everyone and some cookies.

It took us a few days, but we did it! I made us some cookies to decorate (I had wanted to make the kind that you roll out and use cookies cutters with, but it turned out to be a roll and drop dough. That'll teach me to read the recipe all the way through next time lol). Emily didn't do as much decorating as she did licking the icing off of the top of the very first cookie I gave her. So I made sure to give her her own cookies to work on, with her own icing and sprinkles. After sticky hands and a sticky face cleaned up, I finished the rest while she ran off the sugar buzzing through her veins. I don't often let her load up on sweets, but since it was a special occasion, it was okay.

We used construction paper, glitter glue pens, markers, pastels, and some stickers to make our valentine's. Nothing fancy, just letting her get her hands dirty. :) She loved it.

After all was said and done, Emily went off to see her Grandparents and Aunties for the weekend, while I got the opportunity to spend it with my special someone. We spent the days together continuing our Dexter marathon, and exchanged our handmade gifts. It was absolutely perfect! I'm glad I got to spend it with my loved one's.

What did you do for Valentine's Day?

The Buzz

Riley's Lost Tooth: "The book is well written and the illustrations are beautiful. The book will definitely appeal to all children (including children at heart like this reviewer) and their parents / grandparents / elder siblings and other care givers. The book is strongly recommended as a good gift that is educational and also entertaining." ~ 5 Star Review, S.V. Swamy, Amazon

Good-bye Baby Max: "This book is amazing! I have given it as several gifts to my friends with children. It is very well written and the illustrations are fun and colorful. This book it a great tool to help parents and teachers talk to children about loss of a pet and a loved one in general. I
would highly recommend this book to everyone!" ~ 5 Star Review, Dawn N., Amazon

Good-bye Baby Max: "This colorful, hardcover children’s title Good-bye, Baby Max (Bridgeway Books, Texas, 2007) by Diane Cantrell & Heather Castles is special in its purpose of teaching an invaluable lesson: that of properly saying the final farewell to a loved one who is no more ... Diane Cantrell has created a very purposeful book for children-one that is at once a story, a poem, and a healthy course of helping children get over grief. The book’s illustrations by Heather Castles are very appealing to a child’s imagination. There is a good deal here in Good-bye, Baby Max to learn for children ages 4 to 8 years and the 32-pages book is a must read for all kids of this age category." ~ Ernest Dempsey, Book Corner

Good-bye Baby Max: "I bought this book to help my nieces and nephews deal with the loss of a beloved pet. The storyline and illustrations were used as a springboard to discuss their own loss. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has young children and is looking for a way to help them cope with a loss in their lives." ~ 5 Star Review, Jeanne B., Amazon

Good-bye Baby Max: "[Good-bye, Baby Max] is a tender story about death, a tough topic for young children. Kindergarteners eagerly await spring and the hatching of the class' three chick eggs. But one chick, Max, dies. What ensues is a gentle exploration of grief and its many expressions -- from tears to songs to artwork. At the end, the surviving chicks' peeps encourage the children to embrace the living without forgetting the dead." ~ Michele Siuda Jacques, Detroit Free Press

At the time Diane wrote the book she was working with many children who were experiencing a great deal of loss in their lives. Her hope in writing Good-bye, Baby Max was that the story would help parents, children, and other caring professionals begin talking about losses rather than responding to their losses from a state of fear. Her second book, Riley’s Lost Tooth, was written for her granddaughter, Riley as a Valentine’s Day present. Mr. Lee, and Sunday are main characters in the book as is Precious, who died before the book was written. When Diane is not involved in writing or listening to people’s stories, she enjoys being with her husband, Rich, and their two dogs, Sunday and Mr. Lee. Diane and Rich live in San Antonio, Texas.

Sevengill Toddler Hoodie Review + Giveaway

Where are my shark lovers?!

I love aquatic animals. More specifically, I love sharks, and so does my little one. That's why when I came across this navy coloured hoodie, it stood out to me.

The sevengill, for those who may not know, is a type of deepwater shark. One that inspired Dana of Sevengill Design to start screen-printing her own shirts, after she realized that they were under represented in the design world. Since then she has branched off to include other animals that she feels are as unusual, and under appreciated as this one. You can find her prints on tees, tanks, hoodies, onesies, and in all sizes from women and men, to children and babies.

I love this sweater. Since Emily just turned 2 in November, I requested a size 2 and it fits pretty well. Since she's on the petite side for her age group she still has a bit of growing room, which is perfect! The longer an item of clothing lasts for us, the better. I just flip up her sleeves so they don't get in her way while she's trying to do stuff.

The front has 44 sharks, each one of them different. It's neat to be able to see the subtle differences between them, and to try and name the ones I know (which really, is just the hammerhead lol). If I feel so inclined one day I may look up what each one is, just for fun. I had no idea there were that many. But until then I'm just going to keep guessing.
The hoodie is of good quality construction, but I found the sweatshirt material a tad thin for our weather up here in Canada. The hood itself was nice and thick though, so I appreciated that. After a few washes it still looks as good as new, and I haven't started to notice any wear or fading of the sharks so far.

Emily loves her new sweater too. It's one of the ones that she chooses to wear out a lot. If I give her two options, 9 times out of 10 she'll reach for her shark sweater. And if I can get her to put on clothes at all, well that's a win in my books. :)

Polysporin Eczema Essentials: Making Our Lives a Lot Less Itchy

When Emily was just a few months old, we noticed that despite my greatest efforts with regular baby lotion, she was still incessantly itchy a lot of the time! She would get these rashes that would pop up, seemingly out of nowhere, and really bother her.

I decided it was time to bring it up at our next pediatrician appointment after the scratching got so bad she was breaking the skin. The doctor prescribed us a pretty common brand here in Canada in the way of eczema daily wash/lotion duos, and suggested to try bathing her just once every couple of days to see if that helped.

Since then, we have the bath/shower thing every couple of days (unless of course she was REALLY messy) and used what the doctor suggested. It seemed to work well enough, but I had always wondered if there was something out there that would do a better job.

Our experience with this line of products has been quite different, and has helped sooth Emily's skin significantly. Polysporin Eczema Essentials Daily Body Wash uses their unique RELIPID™ formula containing lipids, humectants, and emollient and botanical blends to help retain moisture. It is soap/fragrance free, and moisturizes while gently cleansing even the most delicate skin.

The first thing that stood out to me about the body wash was the fact that it lathered. The other brand didn't lather at all. I would use more just to make sure she was clean. It is getting to the point where Em wants to do things herself, and it is a lot easier to get her to wash herself if she can see the bubbles. Our other brand also had a pump top, which I didn't like one bit because it became a game to her. The squeeze bottle design of the Poly products is a lot more convenient for use, and travel both.

The Polysporin Eczema Essentials Daily Moisurizer restores healthier skin (dryness/redness) in just a few days, reduces itch after one use, and helps to restore and strengthen the skins natural barrier function.

The lotion is a lot nicer too. It goes on smoothly, and spreads out easily. It was quickly absorbed and left Em's skin feeling soft. We apply it after every bath/shower. She hasn't really been scratching, and no more scabs, thankfully. I liked that the lotion was thicker (see below) compared to the one we were using previously. It went on more evenly, and there was a noticeable difference. The other brand, I had to use a ridiculous amount of the moisturizer and she would still be itchy.

For those extra irritated days, there's also an Anti-itch cream, but since starting with the Poly line, we haven't had to use it yet. I'll be sure to let you know how it works should we ever need it.  It can be used on children ages 2 and up, and works to relieve any eczema flare-ups that may occur.

Do you know someone who deals with eczema? You can find more info here.
